I am delighted to be revisiting the City Of Bath College to chat to their students about drumming/music and life as a professional recording/touring musician. I used to teach there in the early days and it’s always good to revisit and check out what talent they have going through their doors!
I will be performing and demonstrating various rhythm section techniques, as well as talking about how we can prep ourselves for a life in the music industry. The students can perform and take part in the demo’s as well as ask as many questions as they can think of…See you there!
(This masterclass is only open to the students of the College.)
I am really looking forward to visiting the TW Music School and performing for their students.
BIG thanks to Dan Peranic who teaches drums at the school for inviting me along to perform and I am very much looking forward to meeting him and his fine students.
I will be performing segments from my new instructional DVD ‘Technique & Musicality Volume 2’ and answering questions and talking about life as a professional musician.
I am delighted to be returning for another visit to Andy Stott and the drum students at the RNCM.
I have performed there 3 times before and the students are always very focused on their drumming & music careers. I will be performing some of my new ideas from ‘Technique & Musicality Volume 2’ which is being filmed this August.
(This masterclass is open only for the students of the University.)
I am really looking forward to this drum clinic at The Palace Theatre in Redditch, it’ll be awesome to work again with Matthew Green and perform for the great group of drummers he has attending these events. I met Matt a few years ago at the Vintage Drum Show where I performed a tribute to Ringo Starr and did a drum masterclass and it’ll be great to work alongside him.
I’ll be talking about life as a session musician and showing you some useful tips that will improve your experience working in the studio. I have been working in that environment for the past 30 years and worked with some really great artists and producers/engineers, and I have picked up a lot of information from not just behind the drum set, but also from out front and what goes on all around it!
The great Matthew Green will be playing for you in the first half of the show and he is a fine drummer with some top tips to share with you. So, between Matt and myself the evening will be a drum filled info fest!!
***RAFFLE + CYMBAL GIVEAWAY!***
Each person attending the clinic will get a ‘free’ raffle ticket on entry where the prize is a NEW 16″ Bosphorus Crash Cymbal!!
The SECOND cymbal give away will be one from my personal collection that I used with Goldfrapp, Siouxsie, Simple Minds & Miles Kane to name a few . . .

See you there.
I’m proud to be on the roster with so many great players and each of us will be playing workshops over the weekend covering a wide variety of drumming subjects.
I will be covering:
* Mic’ing/recording your drums:
Have you ever wondered the best way to record your drum kit at home with just 2 or 3 mics?
Or wondered how to create those amazing drum sounds that you hear on your favourite records from plug ins and so on?
Then this session will break down some of those mysteries behind mic’ing drums in both a ‘live’ and studio situation. Rob will be joined by Jon Buckett who runs Earthworm Studios in Swindon who will give you all the knowledge that you need from behind the glass. Whilst Rob will share with you his experience on the subject from the players perspective, in front of the glass.
* Creativity & freedom on the drum set:
This session is designed to set us free from the rules and to introduce us to new ways of expressing ourselves on the drums. It doesn’t mean that all standard practice should be ignored, far from it, it’s more taking all that formal drumming knowledge we have and shaping it into new systems of expression that we can use on the kit.
* Exploring & finding new sounds on your drum kit:
We will exam each part of the drum set and begin to rethink how we can explore new directions in our music making. Looking at the drum set as individual parts means that we can begin to hear what is crucial to us in our beats/music making process. Demonstrating different techniques acoustically that will allow you to change your drum sound in seconds, in both a ‘live’ and studio situation.
